Residential Parking Information


Some communities in Calgary require a parking permit. To find out if your community does, please click here. For information on Visitors Permits, click here.

The fine for parking in a residential parking zone without displaying a valid permit is $50. Please read all posted signs for the zone specific restrictions in your area.

How to Apply for a Residential Parking Permit
If your community requires parking permits you can apply:

  • In person at the CPA Office (620-9th Ave SW)
  • By fax (403) 537-7001
  • By mail to:
    • Calgary Parking Authority
    • 620-9th Ave SW
    • Calgary, AB T2P 1L5

To apply, you will need to provide:

  • Proof of address (such as a current telephone or utility bill)
  • A copy of your valid Alberta Vehicle Registration showing the correct address within the zone.

If you are a full-time student not ordinarily resident in Calgary attending an educational institute in Calgary you need to:

  • Produce your vehicle registration
  • Your student identification card
  • Your rental/lease agreement showing your correct address in the parking permit zone you want a permit for. 
  • Your permit will be mailed to you.

Changes to Residential Parking Permits

Effective November 1, 2011, dwellings requiring more than 2 vehicle permits will be required to pay $50 plus GST ($52.50) for the third and subsequent permits issued. Payment by cash, cheque, credit card or debit card will be accepted.

Note: this does not apply to Visitor permits.

This change is the result of a revision to the Calgary Traffic Bylaw 26M96 under section 20 (3)(a)

The Calgary Parking Authority is authorized to issue the following stickers per dwelling unit:

(i) TWO (2) stickers at no cost, and

(ii) Additional stickers upon payment of an annual fee of $50.00 per sticker.
